DCU beat Cork IT in tight encounter

Updated: February 7, 2012

Dublin City University earned a 0-11 to 0-8 victory over Cork Institute of Technology in the Daily Mail Sigerson Cup on Tuesday.

DCU looked to be in trouble as they had to play most of the second half with 14 men and were behind with 20 minutes to play.

The match resembled Dublin’s victory over Donegal in last year’s All-Ireland semi-final, however, when Diarmuid Connolly was sent off and Dublin’s performance improved as they went on to win.

Dublin inter-county forward Eoghan O’Gara was sent off halfway through the second half on Tuesday and his dismissal galvanised the DCU team. DCU scored six of the last eight points to progress to the next round, where they will face Dublin Institute of Technology.

Full-forward Dean Rock was DCU’s star performer, with the man-of-the-match scoring three points from play and six points overall. Gerry O’Connor was the top scorer for CIT.

Teams and scorers will appear soon.
