Former Cork City FC striker Graham Cummins, got his Preston North End career off to a flier last night, playing the full 90 minutes as his side beat Hartlepool United 1-0 at Deepdale.
For the man who scored more goals than any other Cork player in one season (netting 24 last season); the game was a real baptism of fire as it was his first 90 minute game since October.
The win moves Preston up to 12th in the League One table, nine points off Stevenage in the play-off spots. Incidentally, another ex-Cork City player Darren Murphy is on Stevenage’s books, though he’s currently loaned out to Aldershot in League Two.
On Twitter; 24 year-old Ballincollig native Cummins expressed his delight at his new club’s win (in what was his first game since signing on January 30th after three games were postponed due to adverse weather conditions): ”Great win tonight. First game in nearly four months. Thought my legs would fall off near the end. Physical game but a win is a win.”
