Silvestre De Sousa’s assent up to the top table of jockeys in England took another shot in the arm when Godolphin confirmed that they have signed the jockey to ride their horses in the coming flat season.
The appointment bookends what has been a fantastic period for De Sousa since he rode his first winner in England six years ago.
De Sousa will now join Frankie Dettori and Mickaël Barzalona as part of the jockey team at Godolphin.
Speaking after the news De Sousa said “”Simon offered me the job a couple of weeks ago and I had a few doubts in my mind, but I got up this morning and decided to accept it.
“It’s too big an opportunity for me to miss and I’m delighted to have been given the job.”
Simon Crisford said: “We have a formal arrangement in place for Silvestre de Sousa to ride for Godolphin this coming Flat season and he’ll ride for both our trainers, Saeed Bin Suroor and Mahmood Al Zarooni.”
