UCD win 2012 Collingwood Cup final:
Mary Immaculate College 0-1 UCD
Mary I put in another brave and hard working performance but lightning didn’t strike for a third time. UCD came into the game as firm favorites after their semi final victory over the surgeons, but still needed to make sure that they didn’t make the same mistake as UCC and UL could have been accused of, by taking Mary I too lightly. UCD took the lead early in the first half from a corner and it looked as though we might be in for a repeat of their semi final. However that wasn’t the case. Although UCD dominated the game, Mary I defended stoically. Mary I never really looked like scoring but the longer the game was kept at 1-0 they knew they were in with a chance. Unfortunately for Mary I that one chance that they needed just didn’t fall their way. UCD saw the game out comfortably to regain the Collingwood Cup for the second time in three attempts and the 31st time in their history.
UCD to meet Mary Immaculate in Thursday’s Collingwood Cup Final
Mary Immaculate College 1-1 UCC (Mary I win 5-4 on pens)
This tournament has thrown up a number of shocks but this one is definitely the biggest. Mary I dumped holders UCC out of the competition on penalties, to ensure that there will be a Limerick representative in the final. Mary I took the lead early on, and held onto that lead until the 85th minute. It was a great defensive performance by the Limerick team who were under a lot of pressure for the game. Some great saves by their goalkeeper and some fantastic last ditch blocks helped Mary I achieve this memorable victory and claim a place in the final.
UCD 6-0 Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI)
After struggling through the first two rounds, UCD hit their stride in emphatic fashion. Dominating from the first whistle, it didnt take long for UCD to score the first goal that ‘The Surgeons’ had conceded in the tournament. UCD continued to play some excellent football against a tired looking RCSI team and scored another 5 to complete the rout. They will now go into the final as massive favorites to regain the trophy against ‘Giant Killers’ Mary Immaculate College.
