Irish Olympic Swimming Trials

Updated: February 29, 2012

The 2012 Irish Long Course Swimming championships and Olympic Trials take place this week at the National Aquatics Centre in Abbotstown (29 February to 3 March) when our top swimmers will be hoping to achieve an Olympic Qualifying time for London 2012 and thus join Barry Murphy ( Men’s 100 m breaststroke) and Gráinne Murphy ( Women’s 800m Freestyle) on the Road to London.

It is of course early season yet and there will be no undue concern if no one qualifies from this event. That said it is always good to get the qualifying mark and thus be able to concentrate on training without any such concerns later in the Spring and Summer.

Among those expected to take part in the trials are Melanie Nocher, Andrew Bree, Aisling Cooney ,Niamh O’Sullivan and Sycerika McMahon but there has been little advance publicity for the event which is somewhat surprising (a) in view of the importance of the event and (b) as Swim Ireland are usually quick off the mark in promoting major competitions.

SportsNewsIreland will bring you updates from the National Aquatics Centre throughout the competition.

The Olympic Qualifying time for each event is listed below for your information:
