One of the greatest athletes of all time is to race in Dublin later this year as part of his preparations for London 2012. Reigning 5,000 metre and 10,000 metre Olympic champion Kenenisa Bekele will compete in the SPAR Great Ireland Run in the Phoenix Park on April 15.
The 29-year-old has struggled with his form and fitness over the past two years, but he is looking to peak in time to defend both of his titles in London this year.
Organisers say that Bekele’s interest in taking part indicates how the Great Ireland Run has grown in reputation and quality in recent years. The race was upgraded to IAAF silver medal status this year.
