Irish Badminton players will attend one of the top events the Yonex German Open Grand Prix Gold event.
With Most of the World’s top players in attendance this tournament is once again going to be a formidable challenge for the Irish players on their quest for Olympic Qualifying points.
Men’s Singles: In the Men’s Singles Irish number one Scott Evans World ranked 69 opponent was the Talented Indian Arvind Bhat World ranked 62. Scott has had some injury problems in the lead up to this match. Scott struggled in the opening set losing 9-21 and decided it would be best not to continue and retired in the second set.
Ladies Singles: Irish number one Chloe Magee World ranked 44 faced off against Hong Kong’s Lok Yan Poon. The talented Hong Kong player World ranked 11 in ladies doubles demonstrated her singles skills taking the opening set 21-13. In the second set Magee came back into the match and pushed the Hong Kong players to her limit. However it wasn’t to be the Irish number one’s day as Poon sealed victory with a 21-19 score to finish.
Mens Doubles: In the Men’s Doubles Irish number one Sam Magee and His Partner Mikkel Elbjorn World Ranked 86 faced the Danish duo of Anders Skaarup Rasmussen and Kim Astrup Sorensen of Denmark world ranked 68. Sam and Mikkel found it hard to compete against their higher ranked opponents’ as they lost out in two sets 21-9 21-12.
Mixed Doubles: In the mixed Doubles Irish number ones Chloe and Sam Magee world ranked 40 will face off against the Japanese pairing of Shoji Sato and Shizuka Matssuo who are ranked 19 in the World rankings in tomorrow’s matches.
