The Cardiff midfielder has recently spoken to five-time Wimbledon tennis champion, Venus Williams and McPhail has explained how her advice and experience of the illness is helping him through a challenging time in his career.

He told Wales Online: “Venus has been fantastic and I thank her for that.  Hopefully we have been able to help and give each other support. It was a shock when she rang my home for the first time and we spent 40 minutes chatting.”

Stephen revealed how frustrating it had been, being full of life and able to train and play without difficulty one day, but then not being able to get out of bed the next day.
