Following their Carling Cup success at the weekend, Liverpool FC have begun a search for new talent.
According to Director of Football Damien Comolli many big name stars around Europe want to join the Anfield side, especially since the club owners have implied that they will spend heavily – but wisely – in the months ahead, with a sum believed to be in the region of £75million in the transfer kitty.
According to Comolli : “There’s a very positive vibe around the club across Europe.
“A lot players I know are very interested about joining the project because it’s a very interesting project.
“We already know that there are big players who want to join us next summer because they believe in the project.
“Everybody in Europe knows what Liverpool football club are trying to do.”
Targets are believed to include Barcelona star, SEYDOU KEITA who was linked to a move to the Anfield club in January though a deal then fell through.
The Mali international ,who has not yet signed a new deal with Barca, is quoted by the ‘Daily Mirror’ as saying:
“A challenge elsewhere would appeal to me and Liverpool are a great team with great players,”
“We will wait until the end of the season to see what happens.
“I love Barcelona. It’s difficult to find a better team than them but I’m ambitious and want to play football every week.”
Keita has made but 15 appearances in La Liga for Barca todate this season.
Another ‘ star of the future’ wanted by Comolli and Manager Kenny Dalglish is Belgian youngster EDEN HAZARD currently with Lille, though the French club have just put a £43million fee in a bid to hold out for the highest possible price, hardly surprisingly. Neither Liverpool nor Arsenal who are also keen on Hazard are likely to spend that type of money with Real Madrid being the early favourites here. Liverpool though could include England international Joe Cole in any potential deal since Lille are keen to sign him permanently. He is currently on a season long loan from Anfield.
It is increasingly likely that Dalglish may have to consider offers for not only Cole and Italian Alberto Aquilani but also other “out of favour” stars before being handed a £75 million transfer kitty.
Undoubtedly the club will continue to pursue the youthful policy seen last season when the likes of Sebastien Coates, Andy Carroll and Jordan Henderson joined the club , but with injury worries regarding the long term availability of Steve Gerrard it is also very likely that Dalglish will seek an experienced international, much in the same way as he did with Craig Bellamy.
Atletico Bilbao’s 23 yrs old defensive midfielder JAVI MARTINEZ is also believed to be high on Liverpool’s summer signings agenda as he has greatly impressed for his club and in Spain’s national side.
After his Champions League performances, particularly against Bayern Munich, Basel midfielder GRANIT XHAKA is also on the club’s radar though sources in Germany suggest that Hamburg are lining up a £5 million offer for the 19 years old Swiss international.
An interesting few months ahead for admirers of King Kenny and the Anfield club!
