Torres on Manchester United’s wishlist

Updated: March 5, 2012

No, we’re not talking about the misfiring Chelsea hitman.   We’re talking about 19 year-old hot property;  Oliver Torres.  Manchester United’s European scout Martin Ferguson was seen at the Rayo Vallecano v Real Madrid clash on Sunday –  after which United were linked to 26-year-old Rayo full-back Tito.

Ferguson was also at the Athletico Madrid v Barcelona match later that evening.  Sir Alex’s brother arrived in Madrid on Saturday and had been to Atletico Madrid’s training ground that day to see a clutch of talented players involved in the club’s Juvenil A squad.

Torres, who was voted the best player in the recent Copa Atlantico tournament – which Spain won, is a quick and lively creative midfield player and is expected to be promoted to the Atletico Madrid B team before the end of the season.  The youngster was first identified as a potential target for United at the MU Premier Cup Tournament in Manchester last summer.  Sources closed to Old Trafford have said the club is set to make a £3million+ bid for the teenager when the transfer window opens in the summer.
