Dublin’s Cullen and Laois’ Quigley facing ban

Updated: March 6, 2012

Dublin’s Bryan Cullen is facing a suspension for a late tackle on Laois’ Paul Cahillane over the weekend. No action was taken at the time by referee David Coldrick, though Cullen had been hit in the back minutes before by Brendan Quigley, who only received a yellow card for that offence. It is thought Cullen may have mistaken Cahillane for Quigley in seeking revenge for being winded minutes earlier.

The referee took action on Quigley’s offence meaning it cannot be revisited, however, the Laois man was caught on camera perpetrating another off-the-ball incident, which went unpunished at the time by the referee.
Given the GAA’s disciplinary clampdown this year, the Central Competitions Control Committee may yet revisit the match tape and could recommend one-game bans for both players.
Cahillane, one of Laois’ star forwards, went off injured late in that weekend game but is expected to be recovered in time for next weekend’s trip to Cork but full-forward Padraig Clancy is expected to miss that game after aggravating a hamstring injury against Dublin.
