Ben Reynolds has put in a great performance on his championship debut to make it through to the 60m Hurdles semi-final at the World Indoor Track and Field Championships in Istanbul running 7.82 to finish fifith taking a fastest qualifier spot. His semi-final takes place at 12:45 Sunday Irish Time.
As often with the North Down athlete, he was his own harshest critic. He had missed the qualification mark at the Irish Championships at the Odyssey last month by 0.1 sec but followed that up in Belgium the following week when he did achieve the actual time needed for Istanbul (7.74).
The Hollywood athlete will hope to improve his best time once more in Sunday’s final. After today’s semi-final he told the BBC:
“It was not a very good race to be honest but the result is what counts,” said Reynolds.
“I got through in the end and will have another chance to execute properly on Sunday.”
“I just need to relax and enjoy it on Sunday. Why do I do it? For enjoyment. You can lose that side of it.
“I need to be a lot more aggressive out of the blocks in the semi-finals and get my feet down quicker between the hurdles.”
