The shortlist for the 2012 Six Nations Player of the Championship has been released.
Fans can vote online for their own best player of the tournament at www.rbs6nations.com. Ireland’s Johnny Sexton and Donncha Ryan will be aiming to take the award back to these shores for the third time in four years after Tommy Bowe won the award in 2010 and injured captain Brian O’Driscoll won in the Grand Slam year of 2009.
Wales are favourite to win the Championship and have four nominees on the shortlist of 12 with Mike Philips, Dan Lydiate, Alex Cuthbert and Sam Warburton all nominated.
France have three nominations with Julien Malzieu, Yoann Maestri and Imanol Harinorduquoy making the shortlist.
The two teams battling to avoid the wooden spoon have also made the list, Scotland has two nominations with David Denton and Ross Rennie and Italy captain Sergio Parisse also makes the final list.
England, who mathematically could still win the Championship have no players nominated.
Any player selected as Man of the Match by the host broadcaster over each of the first four weekends of the tournament is automatically placed on the shortlist for the prestigious award.
