Munster Rugby have announced a spate of new player contracts.
Johne Murphy, Duncan Williams, Seán Scanlon, John Ryan and Marcus Horan have all signed contract extensions while former Ireland Under 19 international flanker Shaun Dougall has joined from the Rotherham Titans.
Murphy, who can play at wing, centre, or full-back has signed a two-year extension as has scrum-half Williams and prop Ryan. Scanlon and Horan have signed 12 month deals. Furthermore; JJ Hanrahan (centre), Dave O’Callaghan (flanker), Luke O’Dea (wing), Cathal Sheridan (scrumhalf) and Alan Cotter (prop) progress from Academy to Development contracts.
It rounds off a week for several top players agreed new two year deals with the province. Those names include Donncha Ryan, Niall Ronan, Denis Hurley, Billy Holland and Tommy O’Donnell. Wian du Preez and Doug Howlett signed new two-year contracts some weeks back.
Of the new recruits; Dougall would appear to be the most exciting. Having played for Ireland at schools’ level (Under 18s and 19s); the 22 year-old played against Munster in the semi-final of the British & Irish Cup back in April 2010 but subsequenly suffered a shoulder injury that kept him sidelined till this season when he’s been a regular in the Rotherham Titan’s line-up.
