Volleyball alas does not receive much coverage in the mainstream Irish media but with the Olympic Games on the horizon, this exciting sport will soon be watched and enjoyed by millions of new supporters throughout the world.
So today we take a look at what’s  happening  in Irish volleyball circles as Easter approaches?

As part of its preparation program leading to the European Championship Qualifications round of Small Nations, to be held in Luxembourg in early June, our Irish Volleyball Senior Men’s team will be in North of France from March 16th to 19th.

A series of friendly matches have been scheduled with the clubs of VBC Cambrai and St. Quentin FL and several training sessions. The Irish delegation will also attend two Pro League B matches: Saint-Quentin against Saint-Brieuc followed by the derby between Harnes and Cambrai.

Laurent Cauet (National Coach): “We are very happy to be tested by the reserve teams from pro clubs here in France, and also to attend two B League matches in the evening. I want to thank the clubs of Cambrai and St. Quentin Harnes for their assistance in the preparation of our trip. This is the kind of experience that will advance our group, because we need to see teams and clubs that are more structured than ours. We are not exactly travelling with the full panel; some players were unable to free themselves from their professional duties in Ireland.

We also have some injured players or players who are back from injury, we are not at our very best, our starting six is altered, but we will adapt and get our game together to meet the challenges that we will be proposed. This is a very special weekend for us because of St. Patrick’s Day. It is our national holiday, it is celebrated around the world, it’s a huge honour to represent our country and our values on and off the court volleyball at that time of the year, specially abroad. You can count on us to perform the best we can and make the country proud. “Eire Abu !”
