Reports from Stamford Bridge state that Chelsea are set to make a £30million summer swoop for Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul and midfielder Cheick Tioté.
The Blues are also set to bid £34million for imposingly named Benfica striker Hulk as well as a £30million bid for Athletico Madrid striker Falcao. The latter pair look unlikely to be sold however meaning Tioté and Krul are top of Roman Abramovich’s wish list. Ivorian Tioté has proven to be one of the star central midfielders of this Premier League season and a number of clubs will be chasing his signature though none with the spending power of Chelsea.
Tioté signed an improved £65,000 a week contract with Newcastle this season though Chelsea could comfortably double that wage and are prepared to offer £20million to secure his services. Liverpool are also interested in the 25 year-old, having him scouted before Newcastle signed him for a bargain £3.5million back in summer 2010. Chelsea appear to be the favourites though and are willing to splash the cash in a bid to bolster what is now an ageing side. Salamon Kalou, José Bosingwa, Paulo Ferreira and Hilario are all set to leave the club in the summer, which will create room in the squad for a number of new, younger players. Didier Drogba and Florent Malouda have just one year left on their contracts and could also be shipped out though the futures of Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole remain unclear.
Goalkeeper Tim Krul signed for the north east club back in 2005 for £200,000 and he has become first choice goalkeeper over the last season and a half. It is thought that Chelsea believe an offer of £10million would now be enough to attain the services of the much improved 23 year-old who signed a five year contract extension with the Magpies earlier this month.
