The Curragh racecourse announced that GAIN Horse Feeds, a subsidiary of Glanbia plc, will become the new sponsor of the final Irish classic of the season, the Irish St Leger.
The €200,000 contest over 14 furlongs is one of the most prestigious staying races in the world and the established premier trail race in Europe for the Melbourne Cup.
A number of legendary horses such as Yeats, Vinnie Roe, Oscar Schindler and subsequent Melbourne Cup winner Vintage Crop have all won this Group 1 race in the prestigious careers.
Speaking about the news Curragh General Manager Paul Hensey said “The support of the Irish St Leger by GAIN Horse Feeds is hugely positive for both the Curragh racecourse and Irish horse racing and their association with one of our most prestigious races will ensure that we continue to attract the very best horses and riders for what promises to be an outstanding race day.
““We look forward to working closely with our new partner to ensure they maximize their association with one of the most significant days in the Irish racing calendar”.
An equally delighted Mary Delaney, Sales Manager of GAIN Horse Feeds commented, “GAIN Horse Feeds are delighted to be associated with The Curragh racecourse and the prestigious Irish St. Leger.
“Our aim is to support the equine industry, its patrons and our customers and we hope this new association will help maintain the significant profile of Irish Racing on the world stage.”
