Chelsea have released youngster Jacob Mellis after the highly promising midfielder set off a smoke grenade at the club’s training ground.
Mellis along with team-mate Billy Clifford has been suspended since the incident took place at the beginning of the month.
The incident, which took place at the Blues’ Cobham training base, occurred after the reserve team had been out for a paint ball session.
Mellis brought a smoke grenade back with him, set it off and forced the training base to be evacuated.
It is not the first time that such an incident has taken place at Chelsea. First-team player Ashley Cole once has shot someone at Cobham and got away with it, unlike the luckless Mellis.
