Huntelaar makes Schalke sweat over contract talks

Updated: March 27, 2012

Dutch striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar says he will not consider any contract extension from his club Schalke until after the European Championships this summer.

Huntelaar has bagged 40 goals in just 38 appearances in all competitions this season, and despite having over a year left on his current deal the Bundesliga side want to offer him a new contract now to secure his signature before bigger Europan clubs come knocking on the door.

The former AC Milan and Real Madrid frontman was quoted in Germany’s Bild newspaper as saying “there will be time to gather my thoughts after the season. Before then I want to focus on scoring goals and not let myself be distracted at the European Championships.”
