Dublin footballers maintained their unbeaten run in Division One of the Allianz National Football League, with a narrow one point win over Monaghan in Clones on Sunday afternoon.
The Blues were made to work much harder than had been forecasted and despite opening up a 0-6 to 0-0 lead early on, they allowed the home side back into the game.Kevin McManamon, Tomas Quinn, Declan Lally, Diarmuid Connolly (2) and Bernard Brogan all got on the board for Dublin.
After Conor McManus scored Monaghan’s first point in the 20th minute, the Farney men went on to dominate the remainder of the opening half, and went in at the interval with a 1-5 to 0-6 lead. Paul Finlay scored a couple of frees and centre half-back Dessie Mone added a point just before the break.
Mark Downey gave the hosts a 3 point lead just after the restart but then Dublin scored five unanswered points and took control of the game. Bernard Brogan pointed from two frees and Alan Brogan, Diarmuid Connolly and Darragh Nelson also got hit points. Connolly was sent off late on but the Dubs held on and claimed the victory.
