Chelsea back into fifth as Liverpool are held

Chelsea reclaimed fifth spot from Newcastle with a narrow 2-1 win over Wigan, Juan Mata’s 90th minute goal breaking the hearts of Roberto Martinez battling side.

Liverpool and Aston Villa both ended their losing streaks with a share of the spoils at Anfield, Luis Suarez’s goal 8 minutes from the end cancelling out Chris Herd’s early effort.

The draw moves Kenny Dalglish’s side back into eighth spot after they had briefly relinquished it to Sunderland who drew with Spurs in the early kick off.

Everton stay seventh after Grant Holt’s 76th minute effort denied them a win over Norwich.

Twice the Toffee’s lead through Nikica Jelavic they were pegged back on both occasions firstly through former Leeds star Jonny Howson and then through Holt.

Clint Dempsey scored twice as Fulham ended Bolton’s recent revival with a comfortable 3-0 win at the Reebok while West Bromwich Albion piled the pressure on Blackburn running out 3-0 winners at the Hawthorns.
