The ante post market for the 2000 Guineas was shaken up on Monday with the news that the John Oxx trained Akeed Mofeed will miss the Group 1 at Newmarket next month.
Oxx’s horse had been the subject of sustained support over the last number of weeks for the mile race. However those ante post dockets now lay in ruins with the news that the horse has found to be lame.
Speaking to the Racing Post on Monday Oxx said “Akeed Mofeed took a lame step yesterday and is going to have to have an easy week.
“We had been planning to run him in the Guineas Trial at Leopardstown on Sunday, but he won’t be running and he will also miss the Guineas as we wanted to run him over a mile before making a decision about Newmarket.”
While Akeed Mofeed will miss the 2000 Guineas Oxx revealed the colt’s next target. “The plan now, all being well, is to start him off in the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial at Leopardstown next month.”
