Chelsea full-back Branislav Ivanovic could be banned for three games after punching Wigan’s Shaun Maloney during his side’s last gasp 2-1 win over the Latics.
The Serbian international appeared to strike Maloney in the lead-up to Juan Mata’s last minute winner, but the incident was not seen by match officials who took no action.
The incident was however seen on television cameras and the FA’s disciplinary committee will review the footage with a three game ban for violent conduct expected to be the punishment.
If he is found guilty, he will miss Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final against Tottenham at Wembley as well as pivotal Premier League games against Arsenal and QPR as Chelsea push for a top four place.
The attack minded defender has played in all of Roberto Di Matteo’s matches as interim Chelsea manager and will be a big loss to Chelsea’s chase for Cup, Champions League and top four Premier League honors.
