Tipperary Senior hurler Benny Dunne has announced his retirement from inter-county hurling after 10 years playing for the Premier county.

Dunne commented ”Having had the great honour of being a member of the Tipperary Senior hurling panel for 10 years, I have decided to call time on my inter-county hurling career.”

” It was a huge privilege for me at all times to represent Tipperary and I have many great memories to treasure. I am grateful to all the players, management and backroom staff who have given me such support over the years.”

”I also want to thank my club, Toomevara, for their great loyalty and support during my time playing with Tipperary. As well as the enjoyment it brings, playing inter-county hurling requires lots of sacrifices particularly from players’ families. I want to thank my wife, Elaine, and my family for their great support at all times. Finally, I want to wish Tipperary well for the future. I have no doubt this current group of players will go on to bring many more honours to the county.”

A statement from the Tipperary County Board on retirement of Benny Dunne went on to say ”Tipperary County Board is very sorry to learn of Benny Dunne’s retirement from inter-county hurling.”

”Benny has served the county with great skill, honour and commitment. As a panel member for 10 years, during which time he also served as team captain for 2 years, he has always shown huge determination to bring success to Tipperary.”

”He is held in very high regard by his fellow players, by team management and all associated with Tipperary hurling. He never sought the limelight but worked quietly in the best interests of the team at all times. He will be missed very much. We thank him for his dedicated service and wish him and Elaine well for the future.”
