Borini injury leaves Liverpool down to one senior striker

Updated: October 11, 2012

Liverpool’s striker Fabio Borini has suffered a fractured foot while on international duty with the Italian U21s, leaving Brendan Rodgers with only Luis Suarez as a recognised striker.

The length of Borini’s layoff is not yet known and he will be assessed upon his return to Merseyside but he will not return in time for Liverpool’s next match against Reading at Anfield.

Rodgers was criticised by some for sending striker Andy Carroll on a season-long loan to West Ham in the summer and he will now face Reading on 20th October with only the Dutchman Suarez as a striker.

Borini joined Liverpool in July and has scored once in his ten matches for the club – against Gomel in Europa League qualifying.
