Last year’s World Championship runner-up; Judd Trump snatched defeat from the jaws of victory against Ali Carter on Monday night.
Having led 12-9, he ended up being pipped 12-13; with the 22 year-old branding some of Carter’s antics a ‘childish’.
Trump had chances in a marathon 46 minute deciding frame and at one stage needed four snookers, getting three of them. But Carter crossed the line, claiming a famous win. Trump fell short on a maximum break in the 19th frame, when he reached 96 after 12 reds and blacks.
Trump took issue with Carter for sarcastically clapping the Bristol native after he had fluked a snooker following a missed pot. Said Trump of the incident: “If he wants to do that, then it’s up to him, but he’s 30-odd years old and it’s a bit childish,” – though there was just a hint of angst at the way the match had finished for him.
