Chelsea recorded a comfortable 5-1 victory over Bolton on Sunday. Frank Lampard responded to recent criticism with a hat-trick, while Daniel Sturridge scored a brace for the Pensioners.
Chelsea were in control from the start and took the lead in the second minute. Sturridge was left unmarked in the Bolton box from a Mata corner and headed home from six yards.
Lampard doubled Chelsea’s lead in the 15th minute after a flowing Chelsea move. Mata played a one-two with Ramires before passing to Daniel Sturridge, who had made a good run on the right wing. Sturridge passed to Lampard who finished well from ten yards.
Two bad goalkeeping mistakes from Adam Bogdan helped Chelsea score two more goals before half-time. Sturridge scored his second in the 25th minute. The Chelsea striker hit a speculative shot from the edge of the area. Bogdan easily got down to the ball but let the ball slip through his gloves and into the net.
Two minutes later Lampard scored his second. Luiz shot from the edge of the box and Bogdan again spilled the ball. Lampard followed up and scored easily.
Boyata pulled a goal back for Bolton just after half-time. Martin Petrov sent a beautiful free kick into the box and Dedryck Boyata headed home from six yards.
It only proved to be a brief respite for Bolton, as Chelsea continued to look like the more dangerous side. Ramires and Didier Drogba had decent chances before Lampard completed his hat-trick in the 59th minute.
The England international played a beautiful back heel out to Drogba at the edge of the box. Drogba passed back to Lampard, who finished well into the bottom right hand corner.
Mata had a slight opportunity in the 66th minute, but the Spaniard volleyed wide on his left foot.
Kevin Davies looked to have scored for Bolton in the 81st minute. Martin Petrov got behind the Chelsea defence and pulled the ball back for Davies, who quickly shot. The ball went just over the line but Branislav Ivanovic cleared and the linesman waved play on.
Sturridge had a chance to complete his hat-trick but shot just wide in the 86th minute after good work from Drogba.
The last chance of the match of the match went to Chris Eagles. The Bolton winger hit the post with a brilliant shot after a quality Cech save.
Bolton stay rooted to the bottom of the Premier League after the loss, while Chelsea are third.
