Cian Healy ruled out of USA game

Updated: September 8, 2011

Cian Healy will miss Ireland’s World Cup opener against the USA in New Plymouth on Sunday.

The prop forward had been doubtful after he suffered an eye injury against England in the final warm-up international. Team manager Paul Naughton has confirmed that the Leinster star will not be available this weekend.

“The medical advice was that Cian will be not be able to resume contact until this weekend,” said McNaughton.

“But he will be fit and available for selection against Australia.”

Tom Court or Tony Buckley look the main contenders to replace Healy in the Irish team.
