Clare Hurling Captain Forced To Emigrate

Brian O’Connell, who captained the Clare senior hurlers in 2010 will not play for the Banner county this year as he has decided to emigrate to Australia in search of work.

The Wolfe Tones clubman works as a carpenter and with little employment around the Shannon area, he has been forced to seek work abroad.

O’Connell was captain of the Clare hurlers for the last three years and is one of the biggest names in the GAA to leave the sport over the last twelve months as recession grips the county.
