Tom Coffey has pulled out of the race to be the next Offaly senior football manager.
Coffey, who was a member of the last Offaly team to win the Leinster SFC in 1997, was one of three candidates along with former Dublin star Jack Sheedy and local legend Stephen Darby however the former Rhode manager has withdrawn his name from the contest due to the length of time it has taken the County board to make a decision.
Speaking to the Irish Independent, Coffey, who won two Dowling cups with Rhodes, said of his decision “It’s now heading for the middle of October. Offaly are out of the championship since early July and the previous manager (Tom Cribbin) stepped down at the end of July,”
“This process is taking far too long. The interviews took place two weeks ago and there is still no word, no decision. It’s unprofessional and I have informed the chairman (Pat Teehan) that I am withdrawing,”
