Joe Cole enjoyed what he described a ‘dream debut’ with his new club Lille at the weekend. The on loan Liverpool midfielder made his first appearance for the French champions during their win over St Etienne.
He had a torrid spell at Anfield and secured a move to France in order to resurrect his career. He made an instant impression as he went on a mazy run, beating four players before setting up a team mate to score. Lille won the game 3-1 and his 25 minute cameo was appreciated by the fans and his team mates.
He made the move to France ahead of joining another Premier League club because Lille could offer him Champions League football. Cole has admitted his move to France will give him the opportunity to return to the England set up.
Lille begin their Champions League campaign on Wednesday with a home tie against CSKA Moscow. They are in Group B with Italian giants Inter Milan and Trabzonspor. They will fancy themselves to make the knockout stages and the former Chelsea man could be at the heart of their ambitions.
