Dawn Approach all class in Vincent O’Brien Stakes

Updated: September 17, 2012

It was a day to remember for the Godolphin team as Dawn Approach maintained his unbeaten record with a smooth and convincing win to land the Vincent O’Brien Stakes at the Curragh on Saturday evening

Having foiled Camelot’s Triple Crown bid with Encke earlier on in the day at Doncaster the Dubai based operation fully expected their Jim Bolger trained son of New Approach to maintain his unbeaten record having landed his last four starts in a row.

He was made to work for this win however as for much of the race it had looked like the Aidan O’Brien trained Flying The Flag had pinched the race as he was up to 12 lengths clear at one stage.

Approaching the final two furlongs however, Kevin Manning on Dawn Approach got serious and the response from the chestnut colt was deeply impressive as he swept past Flying Th Flag to win going away from the Pat Flynn trained Designs On Rome who was back in second place.

A delighted Jim Bolger said after the race “I was very impressed when I saw how easy he won, but I was even more impressed when Kevin (Manning) told me about the pace that they were going. He thought they were perhaps going a stride too fast but that wasn’t the case.

“I hope to bring him to the Dewhurst, which as you know is one of our favourite haunts. I’m not sure if we will keep him but we will talk about that at the end of the season.”
