Belgian youngster Kevin De Bruyne is undergoing a medical ahead of his £6.7m move to Chelsea.
The 20 year old midfielder will sign a five-and-a-half year contract and return to Genk on loan for the rest of the season.
De Bruyne joins Romelu Lukaku and Thibaut Courtois, another former Genk player, as Belgian youngsters who have joined the Blues in the past six months.
Manager Andre Villas-Boas said the transfer is being driven by other people in the club.
The Portuguese said: “It’s not within my immediate projects. It’s a target that’s decided by the club, that I knew about for some time. Romelu Lukaku the same, and Petr Cech was the same when he arrived in 2004.”
De Bruyne broke into the Genk first team in 2009 and has enjoyed two-and-a-half impressive seasons at the Belgian club.
The 20 year old has 12 goals and 23 assists in 77 league games in that period, while Genk won the Belgian Pro League in 2010/11.
