Updated: February 12, 2011

Denis Lynch took first honours for Ireland in the opening competition of Vigo’s World Cup show in Spain this evening (Friday) with a win in the Two Phase competition on Thomas Straumann’s bay gelding ‘Tarpan’.

Tipperary native Lynch was just a sixth of a second faster than Spanish runner-up Pascal Levy and ‘Dame Blanche van Arenberg’.

Jessica Kurten then consolidated Irish dominance at the top tier with a third place on Ulrich Volkhausen’s ‘For Feeling’ mare ‘Fashion’.

Antrim-born Kurten lined out later on the grey gelding ‘API Largo’ to take sixth place in Friday’s big feature class at the five-star venue, which was won by Portugal’s Luciana de Diniz and ‘Winningmood’.

Lynch and Kurten are Ireland’s only representatives at Vigo, where the 11th leg of the Rolex FEI World Cup series takes place on Saturday night.
