Donegal’s Allianz National Football League campaign has suffered a severe setback with the news , reported by the “Donegal Daily”, today that the Glenswilly clubman is expected to undergo surgery tomorrow and is likely to miss most of the League campaign.
The surgery is understood to be related to All Star Murphy’s on-going groin injury.
The Ulster titleholders opening championship encounter is scheduled for May and by undergoing surgery now it is hoped that Murphy will be fully fit for that game against Cavan.
You will recall that the injury hampered Murphy during the latter part of last season when he missed several games including the start of the All Ireland semi-final against Dublin.
Ironically the teams met Sunday in the ‘Power NI’ McKenna Cup semi-final when Cavan ran out worthy winners over Donegal by 1-14 to 2-8 at Breffni Park, though Stephen Griffin with 1-4 was in fine form for the Donegal side. Clearly Murphy was missed at the weekend and will be during the early rounds of the League
