Lucan Sarsfields and St. Oliver Plunketts meet in the semi final of the Dublin Senior Football Club Championship this Saturday. Oliver Plunketts are heavy favourites to reach their first final since 2008.
Neither side has ever won the Dublin Championship and both will be eager to break out of the doldrums.
St. Oliver Plunketts progression to the semi final has been impressive. Plunketts gained a 1-14 to 0-7 victory over O’Tooles two weeks ago and beat 24-time champions St. Vincent’s 2-9 to 1-9 last Saturday. Jason Sherlock scored the crucial goal after being released by Bernard Brogan. David Matthews was also played in by Brogan just after half-time and scored Plunketts’ first goal. Brogan finished the match with two goal assists and six points, including three from frees.
Lucan Sarsfields have won three matches en route to the semi finals. Lucan beat St. Annes 1-11 to 1-5 and Templeogue SS 0-14 to 1-9. Sarsfields then earned a gritty 1-12 to 0-10 victory over Thomas Davis last week. Stephen Garbutt came off the bench to score the goal that gave Lucan a clear lead.
Plunketts boast the forward power of Jason Sherlock and the last two GAA Players of the Year, Alan and Bernard Brogan. This firepower should be enough to see off a spirited Lucan Sarsfields squad.
