Former Wales captain Scott Quinnell has said that the French side that lines out against New Zealand this weekend will be the worst side ever to appear in a World Cup final.

Joking with retired England captain Will Carling about the English side who were outclassed by South Africa in the 2007 final, he said; “great for your boys because now England ’07 aren’t the worst side ever to get to a world cup final, it’s now the French.”

“They are the worst side to get to a world cup final,” he emphasised.

New Zealand’s 58-time capped flanker Zinzan Brooke said that his homeland should expect to win as he didn’t believe the French had two top level performances in them, but Quinnell disagreed saying “they haven’t had on, they don’t even have one.”

Brooke disagreed though saying: “the French have done enough to get through, when it gets to this stage it’s just ‘win ugly, win ugly.’”
