The referee for the All-Ireland SHC final replay between Galway and Kilkenny will not be named until early next week but Offaly man Brian Gavin is widely expected to take charge.

Last Sunday’s drawn final was the first since 1959. The practice at the time was to re-appoint the same official for any replays but this is unlikely to happen this time around.

If Barry Kelly is not reappointed then Gavin is the obvious replacement having officiated in some big games in recent years.
He refereed Cork v Tipperary in the Munster semi-final and Galway v Cork in the All-Ireland semi-final earlier this season.
