Ireland’s Joanne Cuddihy was this morning disqualified from the women’s 400m semi-final thanks to a false start. Competing in the IAAF World Athletics’ Championship in Daegu, North Korea the Kilkenny runner was disqualified for a false start, which came as a surprise for the campaigned runner who normally is a seasoned and controlled athlete. She had recorded a season’s best the day before to automatically qualify for this morning’s semi-final but it ended in disappointment.

Tori Pena didn’t progress to the final of the women’s Pole vault this morning either after failing three times at 4.25m.

In other news, Usain Bolt was also disqualified for a false start in the men’s 100m final paving the way for his Jamaican team mate, Yohan Blake to take the World title.
