Darach Honan will not play in Clare’s All-Ireland qualifier against Galway this evening after pulling out with an ongoing groin injury.

The news is a blow to Clare, who produced a good performance against All-Ireland champions Tipperary in the Munster semi final. The Banner County were arguably the better team in the first period, but Tipperary’s four goals helped them pull away and secure a nine point victory.

Honan’s absence will result in a host of positional changes in the Clare backline. Caimin Morey will replace Honan in the starting line-up, with Cian Dillon moving to full back and Conor Cooney starting at corner back. Pat Donnellan will start at centre back and James McInerney will move to the wing.

Clare: P Brennan, P Vaughan, C Dillon, C Cooney, P O’Connor, P Donnellan, J McInerney, J Clancy, N O’Connell, J Conlon, F Lynch, D McMahon, C McInerney, C Morey, C McGrath.
