Ireland prop Cian Healy has been ruled out of the Rugby World Cup opener on Sunday against USA.
The Leinster forward joined the squad late due to an eye injury suffered during the final warm up game against England and team manager Paul McNaughton confirmed he will be unavailable for Sunday’s game in New Plymouth.
“The medical advice was that Cian will be not be able to resume contact until this weekend,” said McNaughton.
The Ireland medical team though stated that the prop will be available for the game against Australia.
“But he will be fit and available for selection against Australia.”
Declan Kidney now has a decision to make on selection for the front row. He can either select Tom Court or pick Munster prop Tony Buckley.
Otherwise Ireland have no other injury problems ahead of Sunday as Gordon D’Arcy, Rob Kearney and Sean O’Brien have all recovered from injuries.
