Marathon runner Mark Kenneally; the first Irish athlete to qualify for London 2012 has been named as the man to carry the Olympic torch through Dublin.
Natalya Coyle and Aine Ni Choisdealbha will also carry the flame through Dublin as it travels on its 70 day journey before the start of the Games. The three are students at Trinity College with Mark (a PhD student of physiology) stating: “This is a huge honour for me to be given this opportunity to carry the Olympic Flame in my own home town. Having qualified for the Olympics it is an extra special year for me participating in the Olympic Torch Relay.”
The Olympic Flame, which will travel through more than 1,000 cities, towns and villages across the UK and Ireland, will be carried through the streets of Dublin on 6th June. The games of the XXX Olympiad will run from 27th June until 12th August with 10,500 to participate in more than 300 events.
