A great night for Irish boxing was topped off when Birmingham born Irishman Matthew Macklin 27-2 (19) recaptured the European Middleweight title when Shalva Jomardashvili refused to come out of his corner for the sixth round.
Macklin first won the title in 2009 but was forced to give it up in April of this year due to boxing politics.
But last night the Irishman fighting in the town where he was born Birmingham, Macklin won it back in style with a powerful punching performance that proved to be too much for Georgian Jomardashvili.
Macklin was originally supposed to fight Londoner Darren Barker, but he had to cancel after picking up a hip injury
It is hoped that Macklin might get a World Title shot inside the next twelve months.
