The 2011 Irish Open Youth/Senior Long Course Championships came to a close today at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin.

Trojan swimmer Nuala Murphy produced a classy performance to win the 800m freestyle title, finishing in a time of 8:50.15. Seamus Stacey of NUIM Devils also showed great form, winning the 1500m freestyle event in 16.06.96.

The Men’s 200m Individual Medley produced a Dolphin SC one-two, with Johnny Quinn taking gold (2:06.40) and Sean Leahy silver (2:10.15). Third place went to Kilkenny’s Colm Dowling in a time of 2:11.35.

Meanwhile at British Age Group Championships in Sheffield the fourth day of competition continued to produce finals and medals. Larne Swimmer Danielle Hill produced another great effort to be narrowly touched out for a podium finish in her 100m Backstroke event (1:10.71).

The Irish team had good reason to cheer as Lydia Kehoe from New Ross produced another medal winning performance and an excellent personal best to finish in silver medal position in the 12Yrs 100BS, finishing in a time of 1:16.74.
