Westmeath’s teenage star John Heslin look like missing Wednesday night’s Leinster U21 Football Championship game against Laois after being red carded in the Allianz Football League on Sunday.

Heslin was sent off by referee Martin Sludden in injury time of the Division 3 draw with Cavan in Mullingar.

The straight red card striking offence carries a four-week suspension, and Heslin will be forced to sit out the Leinster U21 FC game in Portlaoise in midweek.

His absence will be a major blow to Westmeath, with the 18-year-old having been called into Pat Flanagan’s county senior side following impressive showings for his club and college side UCD in the O’Byrne Cup last month.

The inter-county suspension will not, however, rule him out of Sigerson Cup action, with UCD hosting finals weekend from March 3-5.
