This evening’s win over Volkov of Milan, on a unanimous decision, was Nevin’s third victory in a row in the WSB.

The Cavan BC club-man, , admitted that tonight’s win was his toughest test so far.

He said: ‘We stood toe-to-toe and fought it out and fair play to him he caught me with some cracking body shots. The bell saved him from going down in the third and I nearly had him down again in the fifth, said Nevin.

‘I knew that this one was always going to be a tough one as that’s the way it turned out. I’m delighted with my performance and to remain unbeaten.’

Paris will meet Milan at home again in their next match on 28 January.

The winners of the Asian, Americas and European groups plus the best runner up qualify for the WSB semi-finals in April.

Stateside,Ken Egan received a walkover over Los Angeles light-heavyweight Dorian Anthony in the World Series of Boxing (WSB). Egan was due to line out for Miami Gallos against Anthony at the Nokia Theatre in LA , but the five-rounder is off after the Los Angeles fighter missed the weigh-in because of an elbow injury.

Comment on Egan’s walkover, Miami’s Irish/American coach Patrick Burns said that it was frustrating for Egan because he was eager to get back between the ropes following his medical suspension. Burns added that ten-time Irish senior champion would be in the Miami side for the January 27th clash at the same venue.
