Former snooker world champion, Ken Doherty has missed out on a place at the World Championship at the Crucible, after losing out to Jimmy Robertson in the final round of qualifiers.
Doherty 6-3 after the first session but Robertson came out and won seven frames in a row to go through on a 10-6 scoreline.It will be the 24-year-olds first appearance at a major finals and he was clearly delighted:
‘I’m just buzzing at the minute. It’s the best thing. I’m looking forward to the Crucible already”.
Doherty’s fellow Irishman, Fergal O’Brien also failed to qualify, losing out 10-9 to Matthew Stevens. Crucible legend, Steve Davis, was yet another casualty, the six time winner losing his qualifier 10-2.
The World Championship begin at the Sheffield venue on 16 April.
