Kilkenny gained revenge on their All Ireland conquerers Tipperary, with a seven point victory in their opening Allianz National Hurling League game in Thurles tonight.

In wet and windy conditions, Brian Cody’s men hit five successive scores before the interval to move into a 0-13 to 1-07 lead.

Colin Fennelly’s early second-half goal put the cats six points in front and as the weather got worse, the home team could not bridge the gap.

Richie Hogan top scored with 0-10 for the winners, while Pa Bourke (0-04) and Gearoid Ryan (1-00) led the home side’s scoring.
