It’s as you were in the League of Ireland with reigning champions Shamrock Rovers sitting on top of the table after four games
Stephen Kenny’s side ended Shelbourne’s unbeaten start to the season with a 4-0 win in a game that saw both teams down to ten men.
Gary Twigg opened the scoring on seven minutes before an own goal from Stephen Hurley killed the game off just after 30 minutes. Ronan Finn continued his impressive start to the season with his sides third goal on the stroke of half time before Aaron Greene make it four with 17 minutes left.
Both sides saw red with Dean Delaney sent off in the 3rd minute for Shelbourne for the foul that led to Twigg’s opener from the spot with Gary McCabe seeing red for the Hoops late on.
Sligo are in second place in the table meanwhile thanks to a narrow 1-0 away win over Monaghan in Gortakeegan, Danny North’s 49th minute separating the sides.
The sense of déjà Vu continues with Derry sitting in third place in the table following a 2-0 win over newcomers Cork City.
Second half goals from Mark Farren and Stephen McLaughlin helped Derry to their third win of the season. Cork meanwhile are searching for that elusive first win of the season.
Drogheda United continued their impressive start to the season as they beat Bray 4-2 at the Carlisle grounds thanks to goals from Dean Marshall, Brian Gannon, Sean Brennan and Declan O’Brien. Mick Cooke’s side are now 5th in the table after four games.
That puts them two place above neighbours Dundalk who beat UCD 2-1 at home to register their first league win of the season.
