Leinster final ref to take Kilkenny-Galway replay

Updated: September 18, 2012

Leinster hurling final referee James McGrath has been announced as the man to take charge of the All-Ireland replay between Kilkenny and Galway on September 30th.

McGrath will take over from fellow Westmeath man Barry Kelly who refereed the Septemeber 9th final, and drew the ire of Cats manager Brian Cody for his awarding of a last minute free which Joe Canning pointed to tie the game.

McGrath oversaw the Allianz Hurling League Final between Kilkenny and Cork this year before the Leinster final in which Galway ran out 2-21 to 2-11 winners. He has reffed Galway three times and they have won each time. He was only once in charge of a Kilkenny match and that was the aforementioned loss against the Tribesmen in the Leinster final.

Of the three games McGrath has been referee of featuring the Tribesmen they have won every one.

Galway man Alan Kelly will referee the All Ireland Minor replay between Dublin and Tipperary.
